Who we are
Spurgeon Hope Ministry (SHM) is an international non-denominational organization. It operates according to biblical principles and functions as an instrument for mercy ministry.
SHM was conceived through a dissertation on “Charles Haddon Spurgeon’s Social Preaching on Poverty and its Relevance to Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Nigeria” at Kukje Theological Seminary Seoul, Korea. Through this research and the firsthand experience of Seoul Bible Church Seoul Korea's social involvement in the community, a challenge arose to start the same ministry in Nigeria.
A conviction from God was received for ministry among the forgotten, abandoned, and neglected. A deep compassion, therefore, was ignited to take care of them. SHM began on 15th May 2016 in Nigeria.
Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Charles Haddon Spurgeon
The ministry of the great 19th-century preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon inspires Spurgeon Hope Ministry. He ministered tirelessly in the slums of London and was involved in mercy ministry. He raised resources from Christians to meet the needs of retired pastors, widows, orphans, and the less fortunate. SHM also focuses on the poor who are hopeless and find life unbearable.
Our Vision
The Spurgeon Hope Ministry exists to help RELIEVE THE SUFFERING OF THOSE DISPLACED by religious crises, retired ministers, widows, and orphans of late pastors.
Our Objectives
Organize Fellowships for retirees and widows of pastors: SHM will organize fellowships for retirees and widows of pastors. Most of them are lonely and do not have the opportunity to meet as they used to while serving. Organizing fellowships periodically will help them overcome boredom and share experiences with their contemporaries.
Provide Empowerment for widows and orphans of pastors: SHM will endeavor to develop empowerment strategies and modalities that help equip widows and orphans of pastors with skills. These people lack jobs and are not skilled laborers. Therefore, SHM aims to help them acquire skills that will transform them into self-reliant individuals. SHM shall open a multipurpose Centre that will serve as a place for peace conferences/activities, skills acquisition, a venue for spiritual activities, and a shelter for the displaced.
Organize seminars and workshops for retirees: SHM will organize seminars that will help the mental state of the retirees. Being retired takes them out of the academic learning situation. SHM aims to help them develop cognitively; hence, the following fields will be taught through seminars and workshops: learning new languages, skills for farming, Bible translation, counseling, medicals, and training mission groups.
Raise financial support for retirees, widows, pastors, and orphans: SHM will raise money from individuals and organizations to help alleviate the suffering of the people mentioned above. Their meager pension is inadequate to meet their needs. Therefore, SHM will raise funds to help them with medical bills, food, clothing, school fees, and sometimes rent.
